“Be slow to speak, or respond to others, and first consider what you shall say. Words have power to bless and to course. Like the rudder of a ship, your tongue will guide your destiny. Prideful words spoken, can lead to destruction, for pride comes before a fall.
A word of encouragement, gratification and praise, spoken in love is love, which uplifts the spirits of others. Pride repels others away from you, but humility draws them back.
When pride displayed as arrogance, or gossip, or belittling others to build you up, weather conscious or unconscious is destructive and sinful. Pride can be displayed in obvious ways or discrete and less obvious ways.
The less obvious pride can have the most damaging effects, as Judging others, or a subtle boast about some good dead you have done, or plan to do for others, who are down and less fortunate. The damaging effect is that it hinders our relationship. For I hate the proud, and give grace to the humble.
When a brother is in need, don’t gossip, and spread the information, and then highlighting your desire and efforts to help, because the sin of ego and pride will be your reward. When you do good things for others, don’t boast about it, nor tell others what you are doing; for I see your actions in secret, and I will reward you openly.
Let your mouth be only an instrument of blessing, and not cursing.
